The Residual-Free-Bubble Finite Element Method on Anisotropic Partitions
نویسندگان
چکیده
The subject of this work is the analysis and implementation of stabilized finite element methods on anisotropic meshes. We develop the anisotropic a priori error analysis of the residual-free-bubble (RFB) method applied to elliptic convection-dominated convection-diffusion problems in two dimensions, with finite element spaces of type Qk, k ≥ 1. In the case of P1 finite elements, relying on the equivalence of the RFB method to classical stabilized finite element methods, we propose a new rule, justified through the analysis of the RFB method, for selecting the stabilization parameter in classical stabilized methods on two-dimensional anisotropic triangulations.

The Residual–Free Bubble Method for Problems with Multiple Scales Andrea Cangiani St Hugh’s College Doctor of Philosophy Trinity Term 2004 This thesis is devoted to the numerical analysis and development of the residual–free bubble finite element method. We begin with an overview of known results and properties of the method, showing how techniques used on a range of multiscale problems can be ...
متن کاملEnhanced RFB method
The residual-free bubble method (RFB) is a parameter-free stable finite element method that has been successfully applied to a wide range of boundaryvalue problems exhibiting multiple-scale behaviour. If some local features of the solution are known a priori, the approximation properties of the RFB finite element space can be improved by enriching it on selected edges of the partition by edgebu...

Finite element simulation of pyroplastic deformation, anisotropic shrinkage and heterogeneous densification for ceramic materials during liquid phase sintering process
Pyroplastic deformation is a distortion of the ceramic shape during the sintering process. It occurs because the flow of the vitreous phase at high temperature and the applied stress due to the weight of the product during sintering process. The aim of this paper deals with describing a numerical-experimental method to evaluate the pyroplastic deformation, to predict the anisotropic shrinkage a...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of Joint Geometry of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process on the Residual Stress and Distortion using the Finite Element Method
Although a few models have been proposed for 3D simulation of different welding processes, 2D models are still more effective in design goals, thus more popular due to the short-time analysis. In this research, replacing "time" by the "third dimension of place", the gas tungsten arc welding process was simulated by the finite element method in two dimensions and in a short time with acceptable ...
